Arabic Program for Non-Native Speakers

This program is devoted to teach Arabic for non-native speakers students from inside and outside the State of Qatar. The admission process to this program is handled by the International Students Section in coordination with the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Program.
The student can apply to the program with paying all tuition fees or applying to study in the program and receive a short scholarship, whether the applicant is applying to the program in person or nominated by one of the organizations which have an established agreement with Qatar University and admitted by the President of Qatar University to grant scholarship in annual basis.

All applicants to the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers program who meet the following minimum criteria will be qualified for applying to Qatar University:
  1. Must have minimum of a high school diploma. (University graduates are preferred).
  2. Must be between 18 and 40 years of age.
  3. Was not granted a scholarship to study in the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers program previously.
  4. Must have at least basic knowledge of Arabic language (Modern Standard Arabic). Good command of alphabet is essential.
  5. Applicants to the ANNS program should be able to communicate either in English or Arabic with the administration of the university and the university community.

Arabic Program (Short) Scholarship:

On annual basis, Qatar University offers short scholarships for qualified applicants to study in the Arabic Program for Non-native speakers as a one year certificate program. Applying for the scholarship is highly competitive; the acceptance is subject to the number of applicants and available scholarships. Short scholarships are available for students from outside Qatar only.

The scholarship includes:

  • Student visa and residence permit.
  • Tuition fees and textbooks.
  • Round-trip air ticket.
  • Accommodation at the University dorms which includes 3 meals everyday (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), laundry, wireless Internet service, games hall, library, computer lab, Gym facilities, swimming pool in the female dorm, transportation to and from the Campus and etc. Please find the QU Housing department Home page

Paying fees (No Scholarship):

Arabic program for Non-Native Speakers is available for students from inside and outside Qatar. Qatar University will provide Student visa and residence permit under QU residency sponsorship for paying fees students from outside Qatar if they fulfill the required criteria.
Cost:
  • Tuition: $1800.00 per semester ($165.00 per credit hour).
  • Room and board: student have the choice either:
    • In the University dorms: $219 per month (includes room with double occupancy, meals and bus transportation to and from campus, limited spaces are available in University dorms and such rooms are subject to availability).
    • Students can also rent their own apartments in Doha and provide their own transportation. The estimated average cost to do so is $2000 per month, which usually covers accommodation and transportation. Please note that the provided cost is a rough estimate of the cost of living in Doha. However, rents in Doha vary based on location and level of finishing.
Note: 1 US $ ≈ 3.65 Qatari Riyals.

  1. High School OR University transcript or certificate.
    • High School transcript or certificate requirements:
      • The transcript or certificate must be official and final.
      • The transcript or certificate must be certified by either the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs andQatar Embassy (or any GCC Embassy if Qatar Embassy is not available) for the country in which the high school is located. (Only for the Qatari residents can certify the transcript by the Embassy of their country located in Qatar instead of Qatar Embassy)
      • An Arabic or English translation of the final transcript must be accompany the transcript if it is issued in a language other than Arabic or English
    • University transcript or certificate requirements:
      • The transcript or certificate must official and final.
      • The transcript must be in sealed envelope.
      • If the university is accredited by an international accrediting association (accreditation recognition must be listed on the official transcript), NO further attestation is required when sending sealed transcript..
      • If the university is NOT accredited internationally, the transcript or certificate must be certified by either the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Qatar Embassy (or any GCC Embassy if Qatar Embassy is not available) for the country in which the high school is located.(Only for the Qatari residents can certify the transcript by the Embassy of their country located in Qatar instead of Qatar Embassy)
      • An Arabic or English translation of the final transcript must be accompany the transcript if it is issued in a language other than Arabic or English
  2. Confirmation Page: Which should be printed on a paper at the end of applying online, if you couldn’t print it out, just send us the user ID and the Password.
  3. Health Certificate: The Health Certificate should be issued by an authorized Medical Clinic/Hospital which certifies that the applicant is medically fit to travel and study in abroad.
  4. Passport copy valid minimum for one year
  5. Two colored passport size photos
  6. Recommendation Letter from an official body: (i.e. Ministry, Embassy, Educational Institutions or Religious organizations, etc.) says why they nominate the applicant to study in the Arabic Program for Non-Native speakers and provides their email address to be contacted  by the University.
  7. Resume / C.V. (Curriculum Vitae) should include the applicant’s mobile/cell number + the country code and the email address.
NOTES:
  • Sending the required documents doesn't  secure your acceptance in the program; applying to the program is highly competitive and the accepting decision subjects to the number of applicants and available scholarships.
  • In case that one or more of the required official documents are missing, the student’s application will be rejected.
  • Qatar University has the right to ask for extra attestations if needed.
  • Admission to the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers program takes place in the Fall semester only.

  • By the middle of June, all applicants expect an email from the International Students Section informing the final decision of the Selection Committee, whether you are accepted to study in the program or not.

Financial Aid and Scholarship

Qatar University provides different kinds of financial aids and creative opportunities to help students who face financial difficulties in achieving their educational goals with a commitment to the university policies and rules. The student Fund Section at Student Services Department receives the applications and check compliance against the university's conditions and regulations. The section takes its decisions also based on the availability of the resources.
Also, Qatar University supports a wide variety of scholarships to approximately 400 recipients each academic year in order to attract highly qualified students. While the vast majority of academic scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and scholarly achievement.  All scholarships, however, cover the cost of tuition fees.
